Dublin, IRL - We’re loving the new single “Laundry Mat” from Dublin-based all-female indie rock band Martina and the Moons, out now via Rubarb Music, the newly launched Irish artist development label founded by Grammy Award-winning producer Ruadhri Cushnan (Ed Sheeran, Snow Patrol, Mumford & Sons) and music industry veteran Shea McNelis (2025 Dublin Entrepreneur of the Year).
Hook-heavy and unapologetically raw, “Laundry Mat” captures the band’s trademark blend of sharp lyricism, emotional grit, and undeniable live energy. It’s a track that feels both personal and universal, the sound of modern Britpop filtered through an authentic DIY spirit.
Fronted by Scotland-born, Spanish-raised vocalist and songwriter Martina Moon, with Sarah Morgan (guitar), Ruby Levins (bass), and Zahira Ellis (drums), the four-piece have quickly become one of Ireland’s most exciting new exports. Their sound nods to Elastica, Catatonia, and Blur, while carrying the melodic craft of Carole King and Paul Simon.
“The song was born out of frustration and alienation while doing something as mundane as my laundry,” Martina says. “That morning, I’d read about a domestic violence murder in my hometown. I remember standing there, staring at the washing machine, thinking about the absurdity of just carrying on. Laundry Mat is about that sense of urgency and helplessness – a call to stop sleepwalking through life.”
Recorded at Camden Studios with Ruadhri Cushnan and Elise Mollé, the single captures the emotional immediacy of Martina and the Moons’ live shows, something the band has honed through standout performances at Whelan’s (Dublin), The Great Escape (Brighton), and their recent sets at Output Belfast and Ireland Music Week 2025.
With “Laundry Mat,” Martina and the Moons deliver a fearless and heartfelt statement that cements their place as one of Ireland’s most compelling new bands.
