We’re thrilled to unveil the release of The Wednesday Play’s latest single, ‘Sleepwalking Man feat. James Vincent available on a limited edition cassette and digital download.

Crafted by London’s dynamic duo and produced by multi-instrumentalist Sam Soper, ‘Sleepwalking Man’ delivers a striking dose of New Wave indie-pop that channels the spirit of 80s legends like Bowie and New Order.

Featuring the smooth vocals of musician and comic book author James Vincent, the track explores themes of isolation and loss. The metaphor of sleepwalking captures the disorientation of losing purpose: “Sometimes I don’t even know where I’m going when I’m gone.”

Flickers - 7" Single (Colour: Clear)

The Wednesday Play debut 7" single Flickers - [45 rpm (Colour: Clear) Lathe Cut] - backed with Waiting at Home. Recorded and produced by multi-instrumentalist Sam Soper with lyrics and vocals by Robert Paul.

Flickers - is a blistering post-punk track featuring a wild saxophone solo by Chuchi Malpersona (Jim Jones All Stars). Sharp, catchy and tightly played, musical comparisons include The Fall, The Buzzcocks and Blur. Lyrically the song references out of date technology (such as DVD players etc.) as metaphors for feelings of disorientation and disconnection.

Waiting at Home - is an upbeat post-punk/dance track inspired by early 80s hip-hop/new wave crossovers. American vocalist Tina Swasey adds to the Tom Tom Club or Rapture-era Debbie Harry vibe, but the spiky guitar is pure Gang Of Four. In contrast to the energetic music, the lyrics address feelings of paranoia and insomnia whilst waiting for a late night telephone call. The track makes use of various vintage drum machines and Sam Soper’s hand built synth.

Please note: Each record is individually cut on a lathe meaning sound quality varies from record to record.
